As daylight hours shorten and evenings grow longer, Police Scotland through the Scottish Partnership Against Acquisitive Crime (SPAACE), supported by Neighbourhood Watch Scotland (NWS) is working to strengthen community safety and resilience.

This collaboration ensures that individuals and neighbourhoods remain informed, connected, and empowered to take practical steps that reduce the risk of crime. It’s a powerful example of partnership working in action, helping communities look out for one another.

Seasonal changes can present opportunities for theft, particularly involving homes and vehicles. But with a few simple precautions such as locking doors and windows, keeping valuables out of sight, and using outdoor lighting can help protect your property and contribute to a safer neighbourhood.

Home Security Tips

Lock all doors and windows avoid leaving keys in locks.

Ensure outdoor security lighting is working properly.

Secure tools and items that could be used to gain entry.

Record and security-mark valuable possessions.

Vehicle Security Tips

Always lock your vehicle and remove any valuables.

Store car keys securely and out of sight.

Social Media Awareness

Avoid posting information that suggests your home is unoccupied.

Be mindful when sharing details about holidays, events, or displaying valuables online.

Community Connections

Look out for neighbours, especially those who may be vulnerable

Report suspicious activity to Police Scotland 📞 101 or 999 in an emergency
